Small Business Finalist Spotlight: KBF by Audi Contractors

Thanks to Jamil Audi, and congratulations again!
Check out their website here.

1.  Tell us your story of how your company got to where it is today?

The Audi Contractors story is based on the belief that family is the most important thing in life. It’s what makes a house a home. My family decided long ago that they were all committed to the same mission—creating spaces that enhance the moments of every day life. Victor Audi (my father) was the first to envision this business. With the support of his wife (my mother) Laura, they moved to the DC area with my siblings and I, leaving behind a career in construction. They began a family business that would grow to touch more lives every year, from 1984 to today. Our family has continued to flourish, as has our business. Our customers have affirmed that the combination of our values, coupled with our quality and customer service, made our brand a fixture in the every day life of their homes.

2.  What would it mean to you and your company to win a Small Business Award?

This award would be motivation to strive for even more in our business and in our community. We are never satisfied with the status quo, and aim to be thought-leaders in our area of expertise. This award would confirm that our efforts and focus have been well applied to the deserving, wonderful consumer base we serve. We’d love to share in the joy of this acknowledgement with our customers, partners, and everyone in the Audi Contractors family.

3.  If you weren’t running your own business/working at this business, what would you be doing?

Oddly enough I would probably be a lawyer. While that is an entirely different field, my interest in it is to protect people and their quality of life. I feel that I serve this passion much better by bringing the vision of a family’s home to life, so their happiness and security day to day can be maximized.

4.  What book are you reading right now? / What is your favorite book

“Dare to Matter” by Pete Smith. My favorite book is “Enders Game” by Orson Scott.

5.  If you have 24-hours off, and your family was out of town, what would you do?

As our business runs around the clock I’d have to say that the best way to relax is to turn the phone off. Ideally this quality time would include grabbing my clubs and hitting 18 holes of golf with my girlfriend.

6.  What is the smallest thing that has made the largest impact on your business?

Failing to plan is planning to fail. It’s my motto in business and in life. Planning ahead is a courtesy to our customers, our partners, and my fellow colleagues. Thoughtfulness and foresight into the needs of our customers are key traits that keep our business running intelligently. We all live by this quote.

 7.  What did you want to be when you grew up as a child? / What was a childhood dream that you had?

I always dreamed of being a professional football player growing up—and football continues to be a passion of mine.

 8.  Who is the one person that has influenced you the most in your career?

My parents. They taught me to be good to other people, to do good work even when no one is watching, to appreciate my family, and to run an honest, evolving business. They were always there for me growing up even though they were building our company. I want to set the same example someday—that success is when you do great work while being great to the ones you love most.

9.  What is your favorite thing about running a business in Loudoun County?

THE PEOPLE! It’d be easy to say they are great customers who love to invest in their homes, and have the means to do so. This is true…but that is not what motivates the people of our company to come to work every day. We have a relationship with our customers that is often multi-generational, and organic. The bulk of our new customers reach out as a result of a recommendation from a friend who had a good experience. We work fast, smart, and attentively to give our customers what they want and need—-and it is a PLEASURE to do so as their happiness and friendship inspires us to always be better.

10.  If you’re not in the office where can we find you?

I can be found basically one of three places: at the gym, on the golf course, or with my family.

11.  What is your favorite weekend activity in Loudoun County?

I love to go hiking with my girlfriend and my dogs. We also love to go to local festivals!
