Understanding How Energy Decisions Are Made

Energy policy affects every business. It shapes operating costs, economic development, infrastructure investment, reliability, and growth.

Yet few business leaders outside the energy sector really understand how energy policy gets made, or how power is generated, delivered, and regulated. The roles played by federal and state regulators, grid operators, utilities, and elected officials are often just as unclear.

This dynamic event will give Loudoun’s business and community leaders a clear look at how the energy system works and how major policy and infrastructure decisions get made.

The event opens with a keynote from Josephus Allmond, Chief Energy Officer in VA Governor Spanberger’s Administration. After Mr. Allmond’s presentation, a panel discussion will feature leading decision-makers shaping regional, state, and local energy policy.

Our panel brings together four people at the center of these decisions:

• Katharine Bond — Vice President of Commercial Operations at NOVEC, a member-owned electric cooperative
• Judge Kelsey Bagot — Commissioner of the Virginia State Corporation Commission, the state body that regulates utilities and sets rates
• Bill Murray — Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Communications at Dominion Energy, an investor-owned utility
• Jason Stanek — Executive Director of Governmental Services at PJM Interconnection, the operator that runs the regional power grid

Together they’ll help attendees understand who makes energy decisions, what drives those decisions, and how businesses and communities can have a voice in the process.

Directions: The event is located at the Belmont Country Club Clubhouse – use the front gate from Russell Branch Pkwy (across from Whole Foods shopping center) to enter the Country Club and let the security guard know that you’re attending the Chamber event. After entering the main gate, turn right at the roundabout and then follow the road up to the Manor/Clubhouse. Park wherever you would like. The event is in the upstairs ballroom.
