32nd Annual Loudoun Small Business Awards Finalist Spotlight: Curata Partners
Thank you to Colleen Gillis Founder of Curata Partners for sharing their story with us. Congratulations on being named a finalist in our Professional Service Business of the Year category for the 32nd Annual Loudoun Small Business Awards!
Tell us the story of your business and how it has evolved.
Just 2.5 years ago, we opened our doors with a vision to make Loudoun County the very best place to live, work, and raise a family. That vision continues to guide everything we do. As our team grows, so does our commitment to navigating the increasingly complex world of land entitlement, creating opportunities that shape a stronger future for our region. We are proud to help bring thoughtful residential communities, thriving businesses, and vibrant retail destinations to Loudoun County.
What are you most proud of when it comes to your team and/or business?
We are most proud of the way our team leads with empathy. In an increasingly complex and divided world, we believe that meaningful progress begins with listening, understanding, and treating others with respect. While there are many firms that provide similar services, what sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to the people and communities we serve. We approach every project with genuine care, knowing that our work has the power to shape places where individuals, families, and businesses can thrive.

What sets your business apart?
We care deeply about our communities and work to see the bigger picture for each project we undertake. We do not simply check boxes. We are curious. We believe every interaction is an opportunity for connection, and that community building is intentional. And we are relentless in our creation of it.
In what ways do you give back to or stay involved in the Loudoun community?
Our strongest connection to the community comes from the fact that many of our employees call Loudoun County home. As residents, we share a personal investment in the county’s success. Beyond our professional work, we provide pro bono services to individuals who may not otherwise have access to representation. Giving back is a core part of who we are, and as our organization continues to grow, we look forward to expanding our community involvement and identifying new opportunities to make a meaningful and lasting impact in the places we are proud to call home.
What would it mean to you and your team to win a Loudoun Small Business Award?
A Loudoun Small Business Award would be a tremendous honor for our team. It would serve as meaningful recognition of the dedication, expertise, and hard work our employees bring to creating stronger, more vibrant communities. Although we do not pursue our work for accolades, this recognition would be deeply meaningful to our employees and a testament to the positive impact they make throughout Loudoun County.
Who is one person who has influenced you most in your career?
My parents. I was fortunate to grow up in a family where entrepreneurship was a way of life, and through their example, they taught me the values of hard work, compassion, and resourcefulness. While I may not have fully appreciated those lessons at the time, I have come to realize how profoundly they shaped both my personal and professional journey.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
In 5th grade, I wanted to be a doctor and a part-time fashion designer.
When you’re not working, where can we find you or what is another passion you have?
Outside of my professional work, I am deeply committed to my family and to the practice of yoga. In addition to leading Curata Partners, I also own and operate True North Power Yoga – a passion project that reflects a commitment I have nurtured for more than a decade. I believe yoga has the power to change lives. In a world increasingly defined by constant distractions and fragmented attention, time spent on the mat offers an opportunity to reconnect, focus, and discover our true selves.
How do you see your business evolving over the next five years?
Over the next five years, we are committed to continuing our service to the residents, businesses, and communities of Loudoun County. While our mission will remain unchanged, enhancing the quality of life for those who call Loudoun County home, we recognize that the challenges and opportunities facing our region will continue to evolve. We are committed to growing alongside our community, adapting with purpose, and ensuring that our work continues to create lasting value for current and future generations.
