Spotlight on the Finalist: Commonwealth Vault & Safe Deposit Co.

Thank you to Bryant Stone, owner of Commonwealth Vault & Safe Deposit Co., and finalist for Service Business of the Year.

1.  What would it mean to you and your company to win a Small Business Award?

It would be an incredible honor to win a small business award!  I chose Loudoun County very deliberately as the destination for my business; and winning a small business award would validate the present-day need for secure storage that I believe my company is providing for local residents and business owners in the Greater Loudoun Community.

2.  What business person has influenced you the most?

My mother.  She’s a tax attorney and has successfully owned and operated her own firm over 20 years.  Prior to that, she was the first woman in the history of her former firm to achieve partner status.  Her work ethic, business acumen and leadership style have all had a profoundly positive impact on me.

3.  If you weren’t running your own business, what would you be doing?

I would be working in the non-profit sector.  I would seek an opportunity with an organization that would allow me to leverage my skills and experience to help promote and grow an organization with a noble cause.  I have a strong passion towards organizations that support single-parent families and underprivileged kids.

4.  What book are you reading right now?

I’m actually reading 2 books right now: Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker, and The Reason for God by Tim Keller.

5.  What is your favorite app?

It’s a tie between Google Maps and Shazam.  The Google Maps app is the primary reason why I purchased my first smart phone, and Shazam comes in handy when I hear a song I like and don’t know the artist name or title.

6.  If you had a full 24 hours off, and your family was out of town, what would you do?

Weather permitting, I’d go for a hike in the morning and play a round of golf in the afternoon.  I have a couple of favorite hiking spots along the Appalachian trail, so I would drive out to either Bluemont or Harpers Ferry and take the morning to enjoy some fresh air; then I’d continue the day outdoors at any number of choice golf courses in the area.

7.  What is the smallest thing that has had the largest impact on your business?

Back in the spring, we made some minor edits to the descriptive text and language on our company’s web site.  These small changes have exponentially improved Internet/web presence; and now, through a variety of basic web searches, our clients are finding us much more easily online.   On average, 7 out of 10 of our clients are now finding us online, and I attribute this growing trend (in great part) to the minor web site edits we made a few months ago.
