Spotlight on the Finalist: Auctions on Main

Thank you to Derek Archer, Auctioneer at Auctions on Main, for answering a few questions. Congratulations on being a Finalist for Retailer of the Year!  (all photos courtesy of Derek Archer)

1. What would it mean to you and your company to win a Small Business Award?

It would be an honor to be recognized by such a distinguished business community. We are privileged to work among so many great businesses in Loudoun County. My mom told me growing up that I was simply the average of my three closest friends so I should choose my friends wisely. The same is true in business. We are simply the average of all the wonderful businesses that make up Loudoun County.

2. What business person has influenced you the most?

Jack Welch may have the biggest influence on my life so far in business. Dream big, work hard, stay focused, win big.

3. If you weren’t running your own business, what would you be doing?

Playing video games all day!

4. What book are you reading now?

“Think and Grow Rich” by Napolean Hill

5. What is your favorite app?

Send Out Cards – you can use the app to send physical cards in the mail!

6. If you had only 24 hours off, and your family was out of town, what would you do?

Play video games, research the markets and technology trends, form a new business idea, and sell it.

7. What is the smallest thing that has had the largest impact on your business?

Taking the time to say thank you and to care about people more than simply their wallets has made one of the biggest impacts in my life and business for the better. We feel the most satisfied when we live for others and not simply for ourselves.
