Tell us about your business, how it got started, and how it has evolved into what it is today.
Temple Training began out of a personal transformation. I am a wife and mother of three children. As any mom knows, keeping up with that can be a challenge, and if you add physical struggle to the equation, that can make it even more of a challenge. I grew up in a family that placed a tremendous amount of focus on growing your spirit being and not emphasizing maintaining your physical. So I had to figure this part out for myself. After spending time on me and transforming my health, I wanted to share the knowledge and help others like me, spiritually grounded or growing, yet struggling to get healthy physically. This business began in my basement with a few amazing ladies, and today we have moved into our facility in downtown Leesburg. It has been a fantastic journey.
What would it mean for you and your business to win a Small Business Award?
Having been in business for over ten years, we have seen some amazing transformations, physically and mentally. These transformations have occurred in the company and the clients we help, which is rewarding. However, to be awarded for all of our efforts to create, maintain, and serve would be beyond incredible. I believe this recognition would help us expand our reach to help more people in our community.
What is the smallest thing that has made the biggest impact on your business?
The one thing that has made the biggest impact on our business is our community. We have such a great group of people that love and support each other. They make great efforts to encourage and motivate each other through tough workouts and life struggles.
Who is the one person that has influenced you the most in your career?
The one person that has influenced me the most in my career is Michael Thrash; he had a faith-based fitness business in Leesburg years ago. When my husband and I joined that gym; and saw the impact faith and fitness had on creating sustainable transformation and building a community, we knew this combination of fitness and faith was something we wanted to replicate at Temple Training.
What is your favorite thing about running your business in Loudoun County?
Our favorite thing about running a fitness business in Loudoun County is the community focus on being healthy! Loudoun County is in the top ten for Healthiest Communities for 2020.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
As a child, I wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. However, my Uncle discovered an old video of my siblings and me pretending to be in an aerobics class, and I was the instructor. Maybe fitness was in the plan all along.
What is a book that changed your life, and WHY?
The book that changed my life was Body for Life by Bill Phillips. Had I not purchased that book, I would have never stepped foot in a gym and realized my potential and purpose.
When you’re not at your desk, where can we find you on the weekends/what is another passion you have?
When I’m not at my “desk” and before COVID, I typically spend time with my family, siblings, nieces, and nephews. We are a close family, and we always have the kids get together. During COVID, my husband has me trying new adventures like hiking, kayaking, and stand up paddleboarding. It’s been fun.
How do you see your business evolving in the next 5 years?
I am looking forward to Temple Training‘s future. We have had plenty of time to reflect and establish our pathway ahead during the past few months. We are looking to continue to incorporate more online options for our clients to include health and wellness courses. Our courses will allow us to expand our reach and give our clients more tools for their healthy living toolbox.
