1.  Tell us your story of how your company got to where it is today?
MoverJunction started as a result of my quest to build products that could help solve problems that people face in their daily lives. Moving is one such problem. Everyone moves at some point in their lives but no on likes it, because its stressful and hectic. Infact, moving is considered among the top 5 stress causing activities an individual goes thru. We want to simplify that process and make is simple and stress free. There are several moving options today but they are all very scattered and at a time when a lot is already changing in your life, organizing and planning a move shouldn’t add to the stress.

MoverJunction was bootstrapped with $500 and has come a long way since then. We’ve helped over 500,000 families relocate safely and have processed over 2 Million moving quote requests over the years. We continue to build upon our foundation to create a robust platform to assist our customers with all their moving needs. From being a solo run business to now a team scattered over 4 countries, MoverJunction continues to grow and help more customers in simplifying their moves by using the latest in web and mobile technologies.

2.  What would it mean to you and your company to win a Small Business Award?
We’ve been very fortunate to be among the finalists for the Small Business Awards for the past 3 years. Just being listed among the awesome business around Loudoun County has been a great honor for us. Winning the award would be a whole another level.

It’ll be proof to the fact that if you can dream of building a business and execute on that dream, there’s no limit to how high you can go. It’ll also be a huge pat on the back for the entire team and really humbling to know that our efforts are being appreciated. It’ll also be a motivation for all of us to work harder and keep making our product even better so we can achieve what we set out to do.

3.  If you weren’t running your own business, what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t running my business, I would be working with the younger generation of entrepreneurs in helping them realize their dreams. A lot of us today want to do things but never take action. I would love to work with kids to teach them the importance of taking action and just going after what they want to do and helping them along the way.

4.  What book are you reading right now? / What is your favorite book?
I’m currently reading “Content Inc.” by Joe Pulizzi. It teaches how anyone can you content to build a business in any niche or anything that they are interested in. My favorite book is “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki

5.  What is your favorite app (computer/phone)?
Google Now. It helps me keep track of everything that’s important to me. From my calender to stocks I follow and news that’s interested to me, everything is right in front of me without having to search.

6. If you have 24 hours off, and your family was out of town, what would you do?
I’ll probably go for a long scenic drive. Or cook something, have a drink and watch movies at home.

7.  What is the smallest thing that has made the largest impact on your business?
Taking action. Breaking up big projects into small actionable tasks that can be completed quickly. Not getting hung up on minute details but executing fast has made a huge impact on our business. This way we are able to launch our products quicker and fix our mistakes faster, before they become too big.

8.  What did you want to be when you grew up? / What was a childhood dream that you had?
I always wanted to create things. Not like an artist, but more in terms of building products and businesses.

9.  Who is the one person that has influenced you the most in your career?
My father. I’ve learned many things from him. From his successes and his failures. I’ve learned perseverance. I’ve learned the importance of planning in life. I’ve learned how to adjust when not everything goes according to your plan. Most of all, I’ve learned to always keep going and never giving up.

10.  What is your favorite thing about living/running a business in Loudoun County?
I’ve been in Loudoun County for 15 years and have been watching it grow. What I love about Loudoun is that it offers a great mix of everything from nature to urban life. It has all the factors for having a great personal and professional life here. From resources available to small businesses to excellent schooling system for our kids. Not to mention our award-winning breweries and wineries.

Thanks, Raj Kalra, of MoverJunction, and congratulations on your nomination!
