What does community leadership mean to you/your business?

Community leadership means not only being a good, empowering leader in business, it also means focusing on the community and raising the capacity of its members for the betterment of everyone. Raising the capacity of our community members can start right within our own business by giving input and feedback, listening to your staff and having an open dialogue, and challenging them because they are capable.

Share with us who/what your inspiration is in making giving back to the community a priority?

Among the many philanthropists, a few who have inspired me are Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, and Warren Buffet.

These individuals have stood out to me because they’ve made sacrifices in order to give back to their community, they give back from a genuine place, and their mindset falls in line with what I believe, which is that the help we give should benefit everyone equally, rather than just benefiting the few.

What is your most proud moment in regards to community involvement?

I have two proud moments. One is that we help organizations regularly, not just a one-time donation, but that we continuously give back and to those in need.  I am also especially proud that I have sponsored young men and women to continue their education.

How does giving back to the community affect your life?

Giving back to the community brings me happiness, joy, and energy, which not only affects me, but also my family in an internally positive way. Helping others radiates positivity within oneself where it can create a domino effect of a culture paying it forward in the community.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in getting more involved in their community?

Start immediately to mentor young women and men in your community by being an exemplary role model, give sacrificially without expecting anything in return, and help others regularly by paying it forward.

What is a leadership tip or mantra to live by?

Giving to the community should become a social fabric within the members of the community.

A mantra I adopted from my own experiences is, “Give, and give sacrificially, and then give more. It’s the right thing to do.”

Thank you to Bruce Rahmani, President of Falcon Heating & Air Conditioning for answering our questions! Congratulations to all of the Community Leadership Award finalists.
