On May 14, 2018, Washington Redskin, Ryan Kerrigan will host the annual Leukemia Golf Classic to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). I hope that you will join Ryan and me in our commitment to making a difference in the lives of patients and families battling blood cancer. And you’ll have a great time doing it! We’ll be playing at the beautiful Lansdowne Resort, with members of Washington’s favorite football team! Last year, we were joined by the team’s General Manager, Head Coach, approximately 30 teammates, as well as other members of the Redskins organization. It’s a unique way to host clients, partners, family or friends.
In addition to having a unique and exclusive day on the links with the Redskins, you’ll also be helping LLS find cures and ensure access to treatments for people with blood cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Consider these statistics:
- More than 1 million Americans are currently living with, or in remission from, a blood cancer.
- Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer, with more than 155,000 new cases expected this year.
- Blood cancers are the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the US, behind cancers of the respiratory and digestive systems.
- Every 10 minutes, another child or adult dies from a blood cancer – that’s more than 155,000 deaths this year.
LLS has one goal: a world without blood cancers. Thanks in part to innovative research funded by LLS, survival rates for many blood cancers have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled since the 1960s. We are making tremendous progress. However, more than a third of patients do not survive five years after their blood cancer diagnosis, and leukemia still causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20. More research to find cures is urgently needed.
