Loudoun County Public Library (LCPL) welcomes Ben Hatke, creator of the “Zita the Spacegirl” graphic novels, as he hosts four Meet the Author events Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3.
Known for his visual storytelling, the New York Times bestselling author will discuss the art of communicating through pictures, emotions and words. Saturday, March 2, Hatke will make his rounds to Purcellville and Ashburn libraries at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively. And Sunday, March 3, he will visit Gum Spring and Cascades libraries at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
The programs are tailored for readers in late elementary through early middle school. Participants can anticipate an engaging presentation about the elements that make up Hatke’s distinct blend of imagery and narrative.
“Our free Meet the Author events offer customers the ability to interact with writers whose work they admire,” notes Susan VanEpps, Division Manager of Programming and Community Engagement. “It’s a unique opportunity to hear about their creative process or ask them the questions that popped into your head while reading.”
If you can’t attend the weekend events but want a piece of the action, Rust Library’s Grade 4-6 Book Club Monday, March 4 centers around his companion graphic novel, “Mighty Jack.”
Hatke’s other well-known fantasy adventures include “Julia’s House for Lost Creatures” and “Little Robot,” which are available in LCPL’s collection.
