1. What would it mean to you and your company to win a Small Business Award?
We are very honored to have been nominated for the Small Business Award. If we were to win, it would be a sense of great accomplishment. Someone thought we deserved to be recognized for the work we do, so much so they nominated our business. What an honor.
2. What business person has influenced you the most?
There are several business people who have influenced me: Prescott Engle of Engle Paxson & HawthornInsurance Services; Carolyn Berrigan, Radiance Salon & Medi-Spa; Douglas Skinner, business partner of SCS Safety Health & Security Associates; and James Clem – business partner of SCS Safety Health & Security Associates. Each person has been a huge influence on me and our business. They have provided great insights to our business and those insights have helped us grow exponentially. Each of them have provided mentoring, and education to me, which has helped me to grow as a person and business owner. I am very thankful for them.
3. If you weren’t running your own business, what would you be doing?
I would still be in the safety industry. I would still be doing what I am doing, but maybe for another business, or insurance carrier. I believe I have a strong passion to help people and businesses with safety and health issues, and helping them keep their staff safe and keeping their business profitable.
4. What book are you reading right now?
Unfortunately I am not reading a book for pleasure at this time. However, I do listen to a lot of music…..so if you were to ask what type of music do you typically listen too, I would reply – I really enjoy most all music, and at any given moment I could be enjoying smooth jazz, bluegrass, country, rock, top 40, and some classical music. I find music motivating.
5. If you had a full 24 hours off, and your family was out of town, what would you do?
I’m pretty sure I would go crazy. I love my family and enjoy the time I do get to spend with them. But I would most likely enjoy a quiet day watching sports or movies.
6. What is the smallest thing that has had the largest impact on your business?
2015 has been an incredible year for us, with excellent growth. I am attributing it to the four business people mentioned above, as their mentoring has had the largest impact on our business. So the smallest thing has been mentoring. I realized that we are not in business alone. There are other business owners out there, who are willing to mentor, and to help other to be successful too.
