Tell us about your nonprofit, how it got started, and how it has evolved into what it is today.

Loudoun Free Clinic was started when the need for quality free healthcare was identified as a crucial element for economically challenged people who live and work in the county.   LFC continues to meet the changing health care needs of the people we serve, even in the pandemic.   We have continued to grow our membership and hope to reach more people who meet eligibility as well as a right to live health lives.

What would it mean for you and your nonprofit to win the Small Business of the Year award?

If LFC received the Small Business of the Year award, it would signify to all of us that Loudoun County recognizes the value and right to have good health.  The countless hours of both volunteer and LFC staff would be awarded with the recognition of caring for our neighbors with great need.   They are awe inspiring!

What is the smallest thing that has made the biggest impact on your business?

Well, at first, I would say Covid since it is essentially a small organism that has changed the world as we know it.  More locally , I would say the 5 and 10 dollar checks we get from people in areas of the county where that has an impact on thier daily living.  Many are donating because a friend or neighbor is receiving life altering care from us and they want to thank us in this way.   Although we continue to need and research funding potentials, these small donations have an emotional impact for me.

Who is the one person that has influenced you the most in your career?

My Irish mother. I was never good enough, so to this day, that continues to drive me to improve and push harder.  (I mean this in a warm, Irish smile kind of way!)

What is your favorite thing about running your business in Loudoun County?

My favorite thing about running LFC in Loudoun is to be part of the community of other human services we partner with to serve our county residents.  There are many amazing and compassionate people that are willing to work hard so others can benefit.

When you’re not at your desk, where can we find you on the weekends/what is another passion you have?

I love to spend time with my family, my ol’ dog Buster and anytime I can be by the ocean, I am there.

How do you see your nonprofit evolving in the next 5 years?

My vision for LFC is to continue to grow and take care of more of the upwards of 17000 Loudoun County residents who may qualify to become our patients.
