The 2020 Community Leadership Awards will be presented at the Annual Meeting on January 24, 2020 at The National Conference Center. This is an annual award given in five categories. Learn more here
1. What does community leadership mean to you/your business?
Community Leadership is an integral piece (and our favorite piece) of our business model. We love to give back to the community and to be able to impact non-profits and community groups in Loudoun County. Our 37 Gives Back program and “Sit Forward” initiatives are immensely important to the growth of our hearts and our business.
2. Share with us who/what your inspiration is in making giving back to the community a priority?
We take inspiration from many places and people, our families, our experience, our clients and the organizations we support. We love hard and want to help as much as we can.
3. What is your most proud moment in regards to community involvement?
My most proud moment last year was at the Superhero 5K – It was REALLY hot – unexpectedly so and one of the younger participants was sick in the trash can at our water station. My youngest son rubbed his back while he was getting sick and later took him a trash can in the shade to check on him – all without prompting… all on his own. Same kid later went on to win the tot race – even beating the photographer to the finish line! I LOVE that our actions are teaching our children to be kind, compassionate, empathic humans who are unafraid to help others when they need it – even when it’s gross.
4. How does giving back to the community affect your life?
It gives us purpose and pride.
5. What advice would you give to someone who is interested in getting more involved in their community?
DO IT! Do it with all of your heart, effort and energy. Giving back to others makes you feel good and it’s just the right thing to do.
6. What is a leadership tip or mantra to live by?
Lead with your heart, it will always take you in the right direction. Be kind, be compassionate, be empathetic and do all without judgement of our neighbors. Do all without selfish pretense and be there for others. If you do good… you will do good.
