While jobs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields are growing faster than any others, and pay considerably more, fewer United States citizens are pursuing STEM degrees, compared to their peers in many countries. According to the Pew research Center, women and people of color are significantly underrepresented in STEM jobs, compared to their share of the U.S. population.
What do these facts mean for the U.S. economy and how can America get more women and students of color engaged in STEM related careers and classes?
That is the focus of the Loudoun County Chamber’s “Women Leaders in STEM” program, a discussion with several successful women leaders in STEM related careers here in Loudoun County.
This moderated panel discussion will focus on why these women leaders chose STEM-related fields, the importance of mentors and early engagement had in their education and career choices and how the U.S. can encourage more young women and people of color to consider STEM careers.
Our panelists include:
• Diane Foley, Sr. Director, Information Technology & Dulles Site Executive, Raytheon
• Staten Longo, Systems Engineer, Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems
• Angela Wilson, CEO, SeKON

On August 17th we will hold our 38th Annual Loudoun Chamber Golf Classic at the award-winning Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf course, The Club at Creighton Farms. This course is one of the finest on the Eastern Seaboard, and is nothing short of spectacular. We are proud to have produced Loudoun County’s premier business golf tournament for the past three decades, and we hope you and your colleagues will join us. For the past 9 years, this casual, networking tournament pairs you and a partner against a field of over 30 two-man teams in a progressive four month tournament. Designed with the busy professional in mind, each event consists of a 9-hole round after work, followed by a short networking reception to get you home in time to put the kids to bed. The team with the lowest cumulative score after four events is the champion.
