1. Tell us your story of how your company got to where it is today?
Plum Grove ReCyclery
started back in 2000 as a small specialty cycle shop in downtown Leesburg.  Our focus then as it is today continues to be service and education.  As Leesburg and Loudoun County grew so did we changing locations to a bigger space in the green garage behind Mom’s Apple Pie.  After 5 years there we moved out of town to Historic Rockland Farm where we hold our annual Bakers Dozen 13 hour mountain bike race.  We worked hard fitting bikes to our customers, providing service and custom bikes.  Last year we moved back into downtown Leesburg with a renewed focus on supporting all facets of the cycling community.  We added used bikes to our repertoire to serve the customer that wouldn’t normally shop at a traditional bike store.  We have a clear mission to recycle bikes, parts and do our best to keep all things bike related out of the landfill.  We look forward to help keep the wheels spinning in Leesburg and all of Loudoun County.

2.   What would it mean to you and your company to win a Small Business Award?
Receiving this award would be fantastic recognition of all the hard work we have put into the downtown business scene and supporting the community.

3.  If you weren’t running your own business, what would you be doing?
Probably driving a school bus and working at a local bike shop.

4.  What book are you reading right now? / What is your favorite book?
“A Man Called Ove” by Fredrik Backman which is next month’s book at our bike shop community book club. My favorite books of all time are “Lord of the Rings.”

5.  What is your favorite app (computer/phone)?
MTB Project

6.  If you have 24 hours off, and your family was out of town, what would you do?
Drive my ’66 Nova to an early morning Cars and Coffee, go mountain biking.  Afterwards go fishing and finish with a good cheeseburger and a hoppy IPA.

7. What is the smallest thing that has made the largest impact on your business?
Buying and selling used bicycles.

8.  What did you want to be when you grew up? / What was a childhood dream that you had?
A race car driver or win the Tour de France.

9.  Who is the one person that has influenced you the most in your career?
My wife Harriet.

10.  What is your favorite thing about living/running a business in Loudoun County?
I love being a local and with the help of my partner Tom Stokes, knowing all of the good gravel roads to ride.
