Leesburg Junction Speaker Series: A New Take on the Old School

A New Take on the Old School
with Butch Porter
Founder/Director of Independent Education (IndED.us)

There is a myriad of expectations about what education is for and what a school system should look like. We hear a lot about “traditional” schooling and “reform” and an “education revolution”. The modern school system needs a monumental paradigm shift, meanwhile, innovative options are emerging for those who want to opt out of the status quo. Mr. Porter will tell a little of his story and explore the reasons why we have the current challenges in the modern school system, from the point of view of parents, students, and teachers.

IndED Founder Butch Porter has a Bachelor’s in Physics/Astronomy from LSU and a MBA from USC. His first career was an internship for college students selling educational books for K-12 students. After a stint in technology and financial services, he founded IndED to help students get an education as part of the community, as opposed to being apart from it.

Come enjoy this night of inspiration, learning and connecting.
