Artist Reception: Steve and Kris Loya

North Gate Vineyard is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve and Kris Loya as the program’s newest Artists-in-Residence. Steve and Kris will be hosting a public reception showing their work entitled ‘Love Nature, Too,’ at North Gate Vineyard on Sunday April 8th, from 3PM to 5PM. Their art will be on display through July 1st, 2018.

Kris Loya grew up on the island of Trinidad in the Caribbean. Surrounded by the vibrant colors of tropical flowers and blue-green seas, it was only natural that she would become an artist.

After moving to the U.S.A, she fell in love with peonies and poppies just as much as hibiscus and ginger lilies and her paintings began to depict those more often. With no formal watercolor training, her use of the media is very much intuitive and is a lifelong love and passion.

Steve Loya moved to Northern Virginia from Pittsburgh, PA almost two decades ago.
Since his move to Virginia, he has been sketching the local landscape with a focus on trees. Greatly inspired by the beauty of his surroundings, he decided to draw and paint his beloved trees, some of which no longer exist. “I hope these paintings and drawings will also inspire others to love and respect the natural world, wherever they might live.”
