North Gate Vineyard is pleased to announce the appointment of Pete Brown as the program’s newest Artist-in-Residence. Pete will be hosting a public reception showing his work entitled ‘Nature at the Edge of Reality,’ at North Gate Vineyard on Sunday October 1st, from 3PM to 5PM. His show features a collection of works in oil and acrylic. His art will be on display through January 4, 2018.
As the son of a fisherman, Pete learned about hard work. That work ethic continues to push him in his art. “The pursuit of capturing not only what I see but what I can imagine drive me to capture nature’s beauty all around,” said Brown. “If I can evoke an emotional response similar to what I felt when creating the piece, I consider it successful.” Many of his paintings are influenced by a love of water. Brown paints on the ‘edge of reality’ to create a shared experience with the viewer. Many areas of the painting are completed by the viewer. He believes that art must involve the artist, the art and its audience. Teaching forces him to continue learning. Brown studied for four years under noted Charlotte, N.C., teacher Andy Braitman. Those studies helped Pete find his painting voice. He now helps his students find their voice.
Pete has won multiple awards in juried shows and has collectors across the U.S. He sells only original works, no prints, choosing to keep each piece one of a kind.
